allmydreams's Diaryland Diary

sous les portes coulisantes

i've almost come to the point where i can accept that life can be swell even when i'm not hyper-organized, and my bed is not made, and i have laundry to do, and i ate chicken nuggets for lunch.

i. am. in. such. a. good. mood.

yesterday charles and i went to see noam chomsky speak at a peace rally in front of the library. i was quite dissapointed...we only got there a couple minutes late, and he finished speaking like five minutes later. plus, the sound was really terrible and even though we were fairly close to the stage, we could hardly hear him. not to mention that considering he's like the most famous linguist and intellectual alive, he's not really a very good speaker. i dunno...i would have really liked to have seen him at macky last night. i wish i had remembered to buy tickets.

anyhow, the event looked like it had the potential to become some sort of kum-ba-yah hippy sing-along, and we left promptly. i exposed charles to the trident for the first time, and we drank delicious coffee and browsed through the used books.

being surrounded by shelves of books just...intoxicates me. i forced myself not to buy anything, but just skimming the titles, being reminded of a great book i've read in the past, picking up something and reading the first (or last, if i'm feeling naughty) few pages....it just puts me into some sort of super dork dreamstate. i almost bought a tale by flaubert , but i resisted.

someone remind me to pick up "prozac nation" at some point as well. charles and i read almost an entire chapter, and it looks excellent in that one day read/borderline airport book kind of way. i guess that's what i usually gravitate towards lately.

anyway we ended up spending almost two hours there, and then we walked around and i smoked a cigarette. and that was bad, but it was somewhat fitting on a day like yesterday....it was half-dark by mid-afternoon.

i came home and smoked a bowl by myself when i should have perhaps been cleaning or writing my aesthetics paper...but hell, it was a saturday evening. somehow i finally mustered up the strength to head over to evan's...where his roommates were passing around a joint heh. luckily i have some semblance of self-control. kind of, anyway.

and here began my interesting night. after watching futurama for a while, we began our trek to denver. about halfway through the drive, however, it began to snow...a lot. we had to pull over at the flatirons mall, but then we got the word that things were clear in denver. amazingly, the weather wasn't bad at all about five minutes later. colorado, you schitzo, you.

eventually we found our way to the hipster youth halfway house (no, it is not really a halfway house, but a warehouse that houses well, hipster youth...and parties and bands quite often as well) for the smiths/joy division (unfortunately, a bit too heavy on the joy division) tribute show. it was so so so fucking packed...and i really had to pee, and the only toilet was a port-a-potty with SHIT ON THE SEAT. essentially, the night was looking like it could suck...

but then, i ran into dave...and then, i ran into justin. suddenly things were looking at least 50% better, as i am much more social when surrounded by people i already know. plus, it was cool seeing justin for the first time since um, october i suppose...and i think he and dave really hit it off.

also, at some point, the port-a-potty seat was sanitized and i peed. i talked to some random guy from boulder. i drank a lot of olympia beer, and it is now my beverage of choice because the bottlecaps have word puzzles under them. fucking rad. anyway, i ended up having a beyond incredible time. hmm plus it was fun being kissy kissy with evan on the couch and sharing my ring pop. hot, i know.

last night did make me feel a bit like a crusty indie kid, though. i'm just not very...scene. but i enjoyed it, and that is good, because next weekend it's rollerskate party time.

you motherfuckers should really be happy that i wrote AGAIN!

losing an hour of sleep sucks,
